Adjusted Market Map & Setup
Announcement February 13, 2023
With the exciting opening of Uncommon Market on Madison & Bowie we are all looking forward to having good coffee and tasty treats available during Saturday Markets. We also want to build a cooperative relationship with Uncommon Market and have worked with the owner and the city to agree upon an adjusted map for Saturday Market beginning March 2023.
This new map fulfills Uncommon Market's requirements to keep an open flow of traffic available for drive thru customers as well as keeping a safe distance from the building once construction begins in the near future. We will move Saturday Market vendor setup to the block of Bowie between Washington and Madison. In the case of extra busy markets we will put overflow of vendors into the original location in the parking lot next to Hattie & Hazel's. |
There are two additional considerations with this move:
1. Bathrooms - previously Coastal Bend Distilling Co. agreed to open their doors during Market hours to provide complimentary bathrooms to vendors & shoppers. The distillery is now in a phase of growth that is primarily focused on distribution beyond Beeville and its local small staff of 4 is increasingly away on business, which means that they can no longer operate consistently on Saturday mornings. They may occasionally be open from time to time, but will no longer be a guaranteed bathroom outlet. We are working on finding another solution and will have a solution in place before our March market. 2. Limit pedestrian traffic - as some of you may have observed several drivers do not observe the one way signage for Madison. This presents a potentially dangerous situation with pedestrian traffic around market. We will clearly block off market with barriers at Madison & Bowie to prevent cars from driving into the designated market area. Likewise, to limit pedestrian traffic in a potentially dangerous area we will no longer host market overflow on the pasture across from Uncommon Market. It is our responsibility to keep our vendors and shoppers safe. While it is not our place to prevent pedestrians from crossing over to Uncommon Market or the distillery, we encourage you to take great care when doing so, and we will work with the city in upgrading signage for both drivers and pedestrians. 3. Exceptions - In the case of significantly large market days such as Western Week, we will collaborate with Uncommon Market, the distillery and the city on a temporary expanded map and will likely close off any traffic on Madison.
